Adi ale Van drew the theme of Soul Tattoo from an ancestral New Year tradition in his home village of Hotaru, on the Danube plain near the Bulgarian border. Each year, children on horseback, dressed in traditional garments, become living echoes of Iancu Jianu’s twelve legendary outlaws who once roamed the forests of Oltenia. Others appear as soldiers or priests, moving from gate to gate and house to house, carrying forward the old New Year carol—its verses passed down through generations. This ritual, both wild and sacred, became the pulse and memory woven into the fragrance.
